The head of the Iowa Democratic Party and its Executive Director are leaving their positions.

Sue Dvorsky has been the chairwoman of the party since June of 2010. She helped with the Iowa campaign of Barack Obama for the Iowa Caucuses in 2007 & 2008.

She plans to return to retirement.

Executive Director Norm Sterzenbach is also stepping down. He plans to pursue other opportunities in Iowa politics.

Both say they felt now was a good time to leave because the party was in a good place.

The official announcement won’t be made until Saturday. A new chair for the party will be chosen in January and the chair will choose the executive director.
