House Democrats walked out of the Statehouse in protest Wednesday morning after they say they were double crossed.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says Republicans scheduled debate on two bills dealing with gun rights without properly informing the Democrats.

In a statement McCarthy said, “House Democrats believe too strongly in our constitution and have too much respect for the legislative process to allow this misuse of power to occur unchecked. We, therefore, in unity, have left the State Capitol in protest.”

Republicans contend the bills were put on the debate calendar like any other issue.

Democrats went to an undisclosed location after leaving the Statehouse.

A spokesperson for the Republicans says they don’t know how the walk-out will affect debate Wednesday afternoon.
