State Senator Jack Hatch released a campaign ad, Monday criticizing Governor Branstad.

The ad features the April incident when a state trooper driving Governor Branstad was caught speeding.

The trooper was issued a speeding ticket in July.

The ad claims speed limits don’t apply when Branstad is a passenger.

Senator Hatch is considering a run for governor, but he still hasn’t made it official.

The release comes on the same day the Iowa Department of Public Safety backtracked from an earlier commitment to release information on whether the incident was the only time Governor Branstad’s vehicle has been spotted breaking the law.

Last month DPS said it would release how many time the governor’s license plate number has been run through police databases.

Now the agency says that information is confidential and that releasing it could threaten the governor’s safety and Iowa’s future access to the FBI’s databases.
