Friday morning, Gov. Terry Branstad signed a bill for a massive overhaul of the way mental health services are delivered in Iowa.

One of the largest features of the bill establishes six regions of the state for mental health services delivery. The idea is to standardize services.  Right now all 99 counties handle mental health services and the quality of care can vary widely.

Friday afternoon Gov. Branstad will sign a bill intended to make it more difficult to buy and sell synthetic drugs in our state.

Senate File 2343 passed the Statehouse at the last minute this session. The law goes into effect right away and will add to the list of banned substances, sometimes marketed as bath salts or incense. It also makes it illegal to possess some of the components used to make the synthetic drugs.
