WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Ohio Governor John Kasich was in the metro Monday hoping to change the conversation on the campaign trail.

For the last month, the focus of all the campaigns has been on national security. The shift came due to the terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.

However, Kasich says what we need to be focused on is fixing our economy, and added he’s the right candidate to do it.

“The most important thing we can do is to create an atmosphere of job creation in the country,” Kasich said. “Everybody is worried about protecting the homeland and that’s absolutely right. But as I was talking to the auditor of Iowa, I said, ‘your father is a hog farmer, I can tell you every morning when he wakes up he’s wondering what the price of hogs are.’ So, economics always matters and security matters, but economics is so critical.”

Kasich says his tax plan has a more realistic chance of passing than other Republican challengers because he believes Democrats would be willing to support most of it.
