They can be tough assignments in the classroom: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. But Iowa leaders hope new focus on those subjects can get more kids interested in them.

The state's S.T.E.M. efforts will now feature a new logo.

Governor Terry Branstad unveiled the new look at a news conference at Greenwood Elementary School in Des Moines.

"We truly believe that greatness stems from Iowans," Branstad said.

Branstad said there are 10,000 available jobs in the state now that require S.T.E.M. skills.

His office expects to start a new public service campaign next month to promote S.T.E.M. awareness. Lawmakers approved the $150,000 for the efforts last session.
