DES MOINES, Iowa – A Des Moines man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to a woman’s death.

According to the Des Moines Police Department, officers responded to a call about a dispute at a residence in the 900 block of Randolph Street around 8:35 p.m. Sunday. The caller expressed concerns about a female at the residence. When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Des Moines resident Amber Burton dead. Police say she was shot.

Nery Arnoldo Lopez Morales, 50, of Des Moines has now been charged with one count of first-degree murder for Burton’s death.

Burton had been involved in an ongoing dispute with Morales over ownership of a lawn tractor, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

The Des Moines Police Department continues to investigate the case. This is Des Moines’ seventh homicide of 2021.
