DES MOINES, Iowa – Police are looking for a gunman following a shooting in the Mondamin neighborhood Thursday morning.

The shooting happened around 10:30.  Police say one person was shot in the chest in the 1300 block of College Avenue.

The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening and at last report the victim was in stable condition at a metro hospital. His name isn’t being released.

Police say an associate of the victim returned fire before the gunman fled on foot.

“They were working on that suburban and the suspect came up from the south in between the house and just started shooting at them for no reason at all. One of the people in that party has a permit to carry and exchanged gunfire with the suspect,” said Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department.

The suspect is described as a black male.

Police say witnesses are cooperating with the investigation.
