DES MOINES, Iowa — Police have made an arrest in the death of a 65-year-old man earlier this month.
Charles Wesley Brown died about a week after he was assaulted May 1 while riding his bicycle in the 2800 block of SE 14th Street. A witness said she saw two men get out of their car and attack Brown for what seemed like no reason.
Des Moines detectives arrested 28-year-old Michael Joseph Scott, of Des Moines, in connection with Brown’s murder.

Scott has been charged with second-degree murder.
A citizen’s tip led police to Scott.
“The hand we were dealt was a ‘whodunnit.’ The intensity is a little bit higher with those when we go to investigate them. There’s urgency when we go to figure out how it happened, and who did it and find that out fast. So this has been a long 25 days,” said Des Moines Sgt. Paul Parizek.
Parizek also said that authorities have identified everyone in the car that was identified at the scene. No other arrests are expected and Scott is not expected to face any additional charges.
Investigators did not release a motive, however, Parizek initially called it a “random, cowardly act of assaulting a guy who was minding his own business.”
No other arrests are expected and Scott is not expected to face any additional charges.
Scott is in the Polk County Jail.
