The Des Moines Police Department is investigating damage to a red light camera.

Police noticed the damage at the 9th and Grand Avenue camera Tuesday afternoon.

A police report shows there was damage to the box containing the camera. It also said the camera was twisted in the wrong direction.

At first the responding officer thought the camera was hit by a tall vehicle, like a semi. However, some of the attached camera equipment was bent in a different direction, ruling out a vehicle hit.

Police are still trying to determine when and how the damage was caused.
