Police: Bullet Shatters Victim’s Femur in Drake Neighborhood Shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa – Police are investigating after a man was shot early Tuesday morning in the Drake neighborhood.

Officers responded to the University Terrace Apartments at 3523 University Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting.

Sgt. Paul Parizek says the victim told police he was parked in the parking lot when two males jumped into his vehicle and said they wanted a ride. The victim exited the vehicle out of the driver’s side and was shot in the right leg.

The bullet shattered the victim’s femur and the responding officers had to use a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before an ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made in the case.
