DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines man is charged in the death of his girlfriend in a high speed crash Monday. But the driver's mother now believes police have the evidence they need to clear her son of any wrong doing.

Twenty-two-year Scalicity Perez, who also uses the last name Boyd, was killed in the violent crash on Monday. The driver of the car, 24-year-old Troy Mure Junior says he was being chased, and now his mother says there is proof.

Mure  is charged with vehicular homicide by reckless driving; vehicular homicide by operating while intoxicated, and OWI. Mure told his mother the crash happened because he was being chased by people with a gun. He even described the car that was chasing him; a Grey Cadillac with front end damage.

Tuesday, Des Moines police impounded a car that fits that description that they say could be tied to the crash. Mure's mother says that proves, "That Troy's telling the truth," Remee Mure said, "That they was chasing him. He identified the car from the damages, the color, the make, everything about the car."

Police aren't saying much, other than that  "there is a very real possibility" that Mure is telling the truth about being chased. His mother says he told her he was afraid for his life because some people believe he was responsible for an unsolved murder earlier this month near the Evolution Night Club. She says her son had to speed to get away from the people who were trying to kill him.  "They should drop the charges and charge the people that's really responsible for what happened," Mrs. Mure said.

Police stress, the Cadillac was seized as part of the investigation, but the people in the car at the time it was seized were not charged and the investigation is ongoing. The Polk County Sheriff's office can't say whether Mure is considered a suspect in the unsolved murder at the Evolution Nightclub.
