DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police say a drunk driver swerved into oncoming traffic on Ingersoll Avenue Monday night causing a crash that shut down the road.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. near 19th and Ingersoll, right outside of the Channel 13 studios. Police say an SUV driven by Jennifer Giovanni, 38, was driving in the oncoming lane of traffic when the SUV hit a car.

The SUV flipped onto its side and emergency crews had to use special equipment to cut Giovanni from her vehicle.

The drivers of both vehicles were checked out at local hospitals and there weren’t any serious injuries reported from the crash.

Giovanni was arrested after being released from the hospital. She is charged with second offense OWI, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
