Several local law enforcement agencies were involved in a chase on I-80 and Highway 6 Tuesday night in Dallas County.

The chase started just after 6:00 p.m. when an Earlham Police officer pulled over a red Ford Focus for going 88 mph in a 55 mph zone. The driver, an 18-year-old female from Earlham, told the officer she wanted to commit suicide. The officer tried to talk to her, but she sped away.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office chased the driver as she headed eastbound on I-80. She then turned northbound on to R16 and headed east on Highway 6.

The Iowa State Patrol deployed two sets of stop sticks on Highway 6 and a Dallas County deputy used a pit maneuver to push the car into a ditch. The car hit a light pole, stopping the chase in Waukee.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

There is no word on charges in the case.
