LUCAS COUNTY, Iowa – Officials in  Lucas County confirm that a plane has crashed in southern Iowa.

Air Traffic Control in Des Moines contacted the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office after they lost radar contact with the private plane. Several law enforcement agencies searched areas of Lucas and Monroe Counties. The plane wreckage was located at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a rural area of northeastern Lucas County.

The pilot, who was the only person on the plane, was killed in the crash. Their identity is not being released at this time.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
