As the president continues to make his case for a strike against Syria, locally there was a call for peace.

A few dozen people turned out in downtown Des Moines Wednesday night to protest a possible US strike on Syria.  They say the president has not made the case that an attack is the only option.

“We’re just jumping to conclusions.” said Chet Guin with the Des Moines Area Ecumenical Committee for Peace,  “And look at our record. We lied getting into Vietnam.  We lied as far as the war on Iraq is concerned.  Why should we believe what our government is telling us today?”

Protestors also signed a petition opposing military action in Syria and plan to present it to members of congress from Iowa.
