Des Moines police are investigating an overnight shooting that critically injured a man.

Police say they were called on a report of shots fired in the area of 14th St. and Washington Ave. around 11:11 p.m. Thursday. While they were responding to the scene, they received a report from Broadlawns Hospital saying a shooting victim had been brought to the emergency room.

Thirty-one-year-old Rashad Adair, the victim, was suffering from six gunshot wounds in the nose, upper torso, and lower torso. He was transferred to Methodist where he underwent surgery. He is listed in critical condition and more surgery is expected.

Police say two witnesses were brought to the station for questioning and then released.

The investigation revealed Adair was shot while sitting in a vehicle behind 1410 Washington. An unknown black male wearing a black hoodie and black ski mask shot into the vehicle. No more information on a suspect was released and a motive for the shooting is not known.
