Despite living just a block away, people on NW 46th Avenue say they rarely hear anything from Big Earl's Goldmine, a gentleman’s club on Des Moines’ north side.

That all changed early Sunday morning.

"There was people just wandering down the street. There was more people than I had ever seen in this neighborhood,” said Dana Smith, a neighbor.

"There was no control. You didn't know if there was a riot, if someone got hurt, or if there was a big fight,” said Bryant Reynolds, a Des Moines resident who lives a block away from Big Earl’s.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office isn't calling what happened Sunday morning a riot, but two people were hurt when a crowd of more than 300 got out of hand.

"Our deputies showed up. They did find one victim with gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot,” said Sgt. Jana Abens.

That victim is 23 year old Florida resident Reginald Bryan Jr. He was air-lifted to a Des Moines hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A second victim, 24 year old Matthew Millsap was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital by a friend with non-life threatening injuries.

Sunday morning, DCI searched the area looking for shell casings, foot prints, or anything that would help them find who is responsible.

"We're looking into charges for whoever fired the shots, but right now we have no suspects and we're just trying to put the pieces together,” Sgt. Abens told Channel 13 News.

Until they do, neighbors will be on edge, hoping the next party at Big Earl's doesn't spill on to their block.

"We don't have a lot of traffic. To know that happened this close and nobody knows who it was makes me feel very uneasy,” said Smith.
