Saturday marks the one year anniversary since two Evansdale cousins disappeared.
On July 13th, 2012, Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook were last seen riding their bikes near Meyers Lake.
Five months later, their bodies were found in a wooded area of Bremer County.
Since then, investigators have released little information about the girls’ death.
Elizabeth’s parents say knowing very little about the investigation is difficult but they hope it’s for the best.
“So we`re okay with how the investigation`s going and these things take time and they have a lot of things to look at, a lot of creeps to look at,” Drew Collins says.
“You know it`s not like a TV show where they get DNA the next day. The DNA takes a long time and it`s a long process looking at all the records takes a lot of time to look at so we`re pretty happy we know they`re doing a great job and we`re just waiting,”
Elizabeth’s parents admit the last year’s been hard.
Drew And Heather Collins say returning to the location of the abduction isn’t easy but say a memorial being built in their daughter’s honor gives them somewhere to go to share memories and create new ones in Elizabeth’s memory.
Heather says her other children still have a hard time coping with the loss of their sister.
“So, what I try to say is that you guys are still sisters, Elizabeth is still your sister. She`s your bigger sister, she`s just not with us. You don`t have to fill Elizabeth’s shoes.”
There is a memorial ride in honor of Elizabeth and Lyric Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
