URBANDALE, Iowa — Police are investigating a shooting in Urbandale Sunday.

Urbandale police said a man was shot at the Westpointe Apartments located in the 7600 block of Camelot Drive.

Medics transported the man to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

A resident of the apartments was shocked by what happened.

“You don’t expect nothing like that to happen. I was surprised. I was hoping to find out a little more when I came out,” said Akaisha Blackhawk.

Blackhawk said it is usually peaceful at the apartment complex, so she didn’t expect a shooting to happen in the area.

“Unfortunately crime can happen anywhere. We want to remind our citizens they are safe on a daily basis, and we are doing our part to ensure their safety as well as to complete this investigation thoroughly and quickly to bring someone to justice,” said Holly Pickett, an officer with the Urbandale Police Department.

Police have not yet identified the victim or a suspect in the case.
