Officials Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Iowa – Officials from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are conducting an investigation following an officer involved shooting early Tuesday morning.

Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of 12th Street and Jefferson Avenue in Fairfield.  The vehicle refused to stop and continued to elude police.  The vehicle was eventually stopped near the community of Birmingham in Van Buren County.

Officers with the Fairfield Police Department discharged their weapons during the incident.  The driver of the vehicle was subsequently taken into custody.

No one was injured during this incident.

“This matter is still under investigation and further information will be released upon the conclusion of that investigation,” the Iowa DCI said in a statement. “The names of the officers and suspect are not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.”
