DES MOINES, Iowa – Fire crews were called to a duplex in Des Moines early Thursday morning.

The call came in at 3:52 a.m. about a fire at 5222 SE 7th Street. When firefighters arrived they found a car, garage, and the front porch on fire.

There were four adults and four minors in the home on the side of the duplex where the fire started and they were able to get out of the home safely. They were shaken up by the fire but say they do have a place to stay.

The family in the other side of the duplex also evacuated their home. No injuries were reported.

It’s estimated the fire caused $25,000 worth of damage.

A cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet but officials believe it began in the car, spread to the garage and then to the porch.
