Before a new menu item hits your local restaurant, it may be tried first in an Ankeny kitchen.

SYSCO Foods of Iowa opened a new office building east of their old facility.  Part of the new office includes a culinary center. SYSCO has staff chefs who work up
new dishes to share with their clients. SYSCO works with restaurants, colleges and hospitals to provide the food supplies which are served there.

SYSCO of Iowa President Steve Gress said, "We take pride in being behind the scenes providing quality wholesome product to our customers so they in turn can serve it to their clientele."

Gress adds, "I get to go back and sample some of the creations when I greet our customers."

Creations one day included a Scottish Salmon topped pizza, and a bread encased-salad.

SYSCO employs over 250 people in Iowa, a third of their workforce are sales and warehouse employees located on the south side of Ankeny.

Though you might not know the name SYSCO that well, you might know some of their customers, including: Culvers, Subway, Jimmy Johns, and Hu Hot.
