HAMPTON, Iowa -- For years, a bluegrass music festival was held in Allison, Iowa, until the promoter was no longer able to do the event.
Now, after a brief revival in Mason City, the Hampton Bluegrass Festival is in year two at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.
The festival began Thursday with a Gospel night. The music goes on Friday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. with instrument workshops in the afternoon. The final day is made up of more workshops and concerts.
Many of those who come to listen or play, camp on the Fairgrounds. One of the unique parts of this event is impromptu jam sessions, under a shade tree on a hot summer day.
The Hampton Bluegrass Festival is sponsored by the Bluegrass Music Association of Iowa. The organization sponsors a number of bluegrass events across Iowa during the year.
There is an admission to the event.
