The Iowa Department of Public Safety welcomed a new employee this fall.

Casey is a specially trained canine that can detect bombs. She will work with the State Fire Marshal Division.

She came to Iowa from North Carolina thanks to a special law enforcement adoption program from the State Department of Defense.

Casey completed a 7-month tour of duty in Afghanistan and is credited with saving soldiers’ lives. She joins two canines, Kodi and Rocket, already with the State Fire Marshall Division.

Fire Marshall, Luke Ossman explains that Kodi was very busy leading up to the election, “It’s been challenging. Kodi and I spent 3 months with the politicians prior to the election. Anytime they come to the state, worked with the secret service sweeping areas, keeping areas safe.”

Casey will live with a fire inspector and be a part of the family when she’s not at work.
