The City of Des Moines is moving ahead with a $1.5-million bridge project.

City engineers say the bridge on Army Post Road over Great Western Trail is failing and needs to be replaced.

The steal support bridge was built in 1957.

The city council approved the project to replace the bridge during a meeting on Monday.

The new bridge will have a tunnel beneath it for the Great Western Bike Trail.
