AMES, Iowa -- Ames Police say they're still on the search for a man who fled after shooting another man multiple times. Officials were called the 3800 block of Tiverton Court Tuesday afternoon.

"It was shocking because you don't expect something like this to happen in such a quiet neighborhood," says Lauren Kopetzky.

Kopetzky said she heard the commotion outside her apartment and then heard what she later realized were gunshots.

"I saw one of the men had a gun...after he ran away, I ran out here to see what was up and then I ran back inside and got some t-shirts and did first aid."

Kopetzky said as a pre-med student and member of the National Guard, her instincts kicked in.

"I just applied pressure to the wounds, tried to stop the bleeding, tried to make him comfortable and take what vitals I could and tell the ambulance where we were."

Ames Police say the victim was transported to a Des Moines hospital. His name and condition have not been released yet.

Police conducted several interviews today and plan to release more information about the investigation on Thursday.
