SHEFFIELD, Iowa -- Crews working on a Highway 65 uncovered a memorial stone on Tuesday while working on the Gilman and Highway 65 interchange leading into town.

Crews unearthed the object, and gave it to the town’s police chief. He took the broken stone to City Hall where it was cleaned up.

The inscription reads: "A heart of gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest. God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best."

City Clerk Katy Flint put a photo of the stone on Facebook, asking if anyone knew who this stone memorialized. So far a number of shares, but no leads as to the family who lost a loved one there.

Here is a link to Sheffield's Facebook if you have any information.
