DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines family is pushing for answers, one year after their son's death.

Monday marked the first anniversary of when Dashawn Smith was shot and killed outside the Evolution Night Club.

“We just need some justice for him. His son, his whole family needs justice,” said Dashawn’s mother Tara Smith.

Police have made some progress in finding his killer. Earlier this year, detectives arrested one of the men they believe fired into the crowd that night. Mykael Maggett is facing charges of intimidation with a weapon and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.

Investigators are still looking for a murder weapon and other shooters in the case.

Between 200 and 300 people witnessed the shooting. Smith's family is urging anyone with information to speak up.

At the time of Smith's burial, the family was unable to afford a headstone. If you would like to contribute you can do so through a GoFundMe page.
