DES MOINES, Iowa — Police say the man shot to death Thursday night in Des Moines was the father of a vehicular homicide victim who was killed in a crash back in November.

44-year-old Scott Perez Sr. has been identified as the victim of a homicide that happened in the area of 40th Place and Crocker Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Officers were called to the area on several reports of gunfire. One of the calls also said someone had been shot and was believed to be dead.

When officers arrived they found Perez deceased in the road in the 4000 block of Crocker Street.

Police are interviewing witnesses but have not released any information on possible suspects in the shooting.

Perez was the father of 22-year-old Scalicity Perez, also known as Scalicity Boyd. She was killed in a November 2015 accident where the driver, Troy Mure Jr., was traveling 90 miles per hour on residential streets when he hit a pole. Perez was thrown from the car and killed.

Mure was found guilty of vehicular homicide in the case in April.
