Des Moines police have made an arrest in the city’s 10th homicide of the year.

Saturday evening, a woman called police to say her children found a body near an apartment complex at 423 East Philip in Des Moines.

When police arrived they found 27-year-old Gerald Bonner already dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Saturday afternoon, police had asked for the public’s help in locating Bonner because he was missing and had a medical condition.  A few hours later, they got the call on the body found on the south side.

Police quickly identified and arrested 27-year-old John Edwards as a suspect in the case. He was arrested and is being held in the Polk County Jail on a charge of first degree murder.

Investigators believe the two did know each other, but have not released a motive.
