MURDER CHARGE: Dow City Man Arraigned

A northwest Iowa man charged with murder is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

28-year-old Benton Wingrove will be arraigned in Crawford County on charges of First Degree Murder and Going Armed with Intent.

Police say just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Wingrove got into a fight with 29-year-old Adam Lary at Cheers Bar in Dow City.

Authorities say Lary tried to take off in his a car when Windrgove fired several rounds, hitting Lary in the chest.

Lary’s injury caused him to crash into a garage of a home along Highway 30.

Witness, Josh Reetz said he heard the gun shots and ran outside as Lary crashed his vehicle. Reetze says he dialed 911 and ran to help Lary who was trapped in his vehicle, “The car was still running and it was in gear and he had the gas pedal to the floor and the car was filling up with smoke, so we had to break a window on the passenger side of the car, we got the door open and got him out.”

Adam Lary subsequently died.

Wingrove is currently being held in the Crawford County jail with a $1-million bond.
