As a result of the bombing in Boston, organizers have decided to increase police presence at a running event in Des Moines next week.

Organizers of the Drake Relays Grand Blue Mile event say there will be more uniformed and plain clothes police officers along the course including the start and finish lines.

They are also calling in additional onsite medical response teams.

The one-mile race is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Des Moines and will include amateur and elite runners. It serves as the official kick-off to the Drake Relays.
