A missionary from First Family Church in Ankeny was murdered in Port Maria, Jamaica on Saturday.

According to Todd Stiles, the Pastor of First Family Church, Randy Hentzel was in Jamaica and riding a motorcycle with his co-worker, Harold Nichols, before they were attacked and killed.

Hentzel, 48, was married with five children.

Hentzel and his family are originally from Ankeny but have been missionaries to Jamaica for several years. He was just relocated to work in-state but still frequented Jamaica on medical missions.

He also worked as a missionary with TEAMS for Medical Missions.

The church released a statement and it reads in part:

“Please pray for the Hentzel family in this time of shocking news and great loss. And be ready, as always, to serve and minister to this family in the days ahead. It’s in this time that we as a body need to weep with them and wrap our arms around them.”
