ANKENY, Iowa – Kelli Winblade and her 6-year-old son Mason took shelter in their basement as the derecho approached their home in Ankeny on August 10. When they came outside to look around they found the tree Mason loves to climb was badly damaged. Mason, who is autistic, asked, “Mommy, can you fix it?”
Kelli gathered her leftover paint and her interest in art and design and went to work. The result is a new favorite tree for Mason.
