Bedford, IA – Tensions are rising in the search for an escapee from the Clarinda Correctional Facility.  Officers believe Rodney Eugene Long shot a Taylor County deputy late Sunday night and then led officers on a 40 minute chase in a stolen patrol car.

Taylor County Sheriff deputies were dispatched after a suspicious person was reported walking along Highway 2 near New Market late Sunday night.  Deputy Dan Wyckoff was first on the scene and took fire as he got out of his car to interview the person walking.  He was hit twice.  Wyckoff was flown to an Omaha hospital where he remains in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

A chase through rural Taylor county ended after about 40 minutes when the suspect rolled the stolen police car and escaped on foot.  Several law enforcement agencies from Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska are cooperating in a manhunt.

Police say Long is to be considered armed and dangerous and suggest caution if you encounter Long.  Do not confront Long, instead officials say to contact them immediately.

Long is described as a white male, 38 years old with brown hair and brown eyes.  He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 144 pounds with tattoos on his wrists.
