Authorities say a man shot a southwest Iowa man several times before shooting himself. The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports Red Oak police found Clyde Zeigler, 36, of Red Oak, with several gun shots wounds around 12:15 Saturday morning.

They said Zeigler had earlier gone over to the home of Rafael Bautista, 31, Red Oak, for a cookout. The men argued about some type of previous property transaction. Bautista left supposedly to use the restroom. He came back waiving a gun. Zeigler yelled at Bautista for doing that. That’s when the men started arguing. A woman put herself in front of Zeigler to shield him from getting shot. But Bautista later shot Zeigler, critically injuring him.

The report said Bautista shot himself. Police picked him up around 9 a.m. before crews took him to the hospital.

Bautista is charged with attempted murder, willful injury and going armed with intent.
