DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man is in the Polk County Jail after police say he tried to entice a minor to get in to his vehicle earlier this month.

Joseph Kurth, 32, is being held on a charge of attempt to entice a minor under the age of 16.

Police say on Sept. 18 Kurth, who was driving a white Ford Focus, followed a 12-year-old girl from the Hy-Vee at Southeast 14th. The girl realized the vehicle was following her around Southeast Sixth and Bell Avenue. At one point, the girl told police the car pulled up beside her and the man inside said something like, “do you want to come in?”

The girl ran away from the car and a resident at 426 E.Columbus noticed her and asked if she needed help. He called the police and while they waited for officers to arrive the man said the car drove by about six times. He wrote down the license plate.

Officers were later able to link the vehicle to Kurth, who lived at 1938 SE Sixth. He was arrested Tuesday and is being held on a bond of $5,000.
