Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide in Deadly Story County Crash

STORY CITY, Iowa - A driver involved with a fatal crash Saturday in Story County has been charged with vehicular homicide.

The crash happened at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 115 Street and 600th Avenue east of Story City. The Story County Sheriff's Office said a vehicle driven by Ernesto Acevedo failed to stop at stop sign, went off the road and rolled several times into a ditch.

Herman Loza, 31, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Acevedo and two other passengers were taken to area with non-life threatening injuries.

Acevedo, 23, of Bayton, Texas, has been charged with vehicular homicide. He is currently in the Story County jail.

The Ames Tribune reports that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
