A longtime Iowa Republican lawmaker is leaving the party, for now, due to “the racist remarks and judicial jihad” by presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

State Senator David Johnson of Ocheyedan in northwest Iowa changed his voter registration from Republican to "no party" on Tuesday.

“I will not stand silent if the party of Lincoln and the end of slavery buckles under the racial bias of a bigot,” Johnson said in a press release, referring to Trump.

“Mark me down as Never Trump,” Johnson said, “and at the same time Never Clinton,” referring to Democratic presidential frontrunner and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Johnson, however, won't go so far as to say he won't caucus with Republicans during the next legislative session.
