A northern Iowa boy risked his own life to save his friend from the freezing cold water.
Clear Lake police told the Associated Press the two boys were walking across the lake on Friday when they approached an aerator.
The aerator keeps the lake from completely freezing and prevents fish from dying.
As they got closer to the device, the 10-year-old fell through the ice.
His 11-year-old friend jumped in to save him.
He was able to pull him back on the ice and slide both of them across to safety.
Authorities haven’t released the boy’s names but say both weren’t seriously injured.
