Law students and professors from Drake University are trying to help Iowa’s youth with a blip on their criminal record.

This weekend, the Drake Legal Clinic will open its doors for the first ever Juvenile Records Sealing Day.

Volunteers will meet confidentially with anyone 18 and older to provide free information about how youngsters can keep their criminal records, as a minor, private.

“The problem with having a juvenile record is that it can ultimately affect your ability to get employment, housing, and secondary education. Sealing you record is a step in the right direction to help with those things,” said Brent Pattison, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at Drake University Law School.

The free event runs from 11 AM to 4 PM Saturday at the Drake Legal Clinic.
