Efforts are continuing to save Malcolm Price Lab in Cedar Falls and parents are now turning to the legal system to try to prevent the cuts.

Parents at Malcolm Price Lab are hoping to save their entire school. Next week, parents will file a lawsuit against the Board of Regents.

“The grounds are whether or not the Board of Regents has the authority to close the school, or whether it is truly a legislative matter,” says parent Betsy Peterson.

The decision will likely end up in the hands of state lawmakers. Cedar Valley senators Bob Kressig and Jeff Danielson are vowing to do anything in their power to stop the cuts.

“We didn’t get into this overnight, we’re not going to get out of it overnight.  But we’re hoping this is a wake-up call not only for our community here in the Cedar Valley, but for the state of Iowa, that education has always been a priority in terms of our state budget and that it needs to continue to be,” says Danielson.

Price Lab parents are planning to file their lawsuit Monday or Tuesday in Black Hawk County court.

The Iowa Attorney General is also expected to issue an opinion on the matter soon.
