On Wednesday, allegations of sexual misconduct between a Knoxville School District employee and student surfaced.

The alleged victim and her parents filed the report to the Knoxville Police Department on Tuesday. Officials say the alleged acts started nine months ago. The investigation has been the focus of the Knoxville Police Department ever since the complaint was filed.

“I will say we have devoted quite a bit of time to this investigation, assigning one investigator full-time to this case, that is not something we would normally do,” says Knoxville Police Chief, Daniel Losada.

Investigators have interviewed the alleged victim, a 16-year old female, who is a student at Knoxville High School. Officers have also served a search warrant at the suspect’s home where police say the collected quite a bit of evidence.

That evidence includes photos exchanged between the student and a school employee. According to the police report, the alleged sexual abuse started in May of 2013 and ended last month. The student also told police the abuse took place at Knoxville High School and at a home in Carlisle.

According to the Warren County Assessor’s Office the home is owned by 33-year-old Troy Rider.

Rider is a Physical Education teacher and the head football coach at Knoxville High School.

Channel 13 attempted to talk with him this afternoon at his home. He declined to comment and told us to leave his property. Rider has not been charged or arrested in the case. The school district also won’t say if he is the school employee who was placed on paid leave.

Once the investigation is complete, the Marion County Attorney’s office will decide if charges are filed. Losada hopes to hand over the evidence to the attorney’s office by Monday.

Rider has worked at the Knoxville High School since 2011. Before coming to Knoxville, he was the assistant football coach at Dowling High School in West Des Moines.
