LOGAN, Iowa — An Iowa teen facing a murder charge angrily denied killing a five-year-old boy in a video played in court Wednesday.

Eighteen-year-old Cody Metzker-Madsen faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Dominic Elkins. Both were in foster care at a home in Logan at the time of Elkins’ death.

According to the Des Moines Register, prosecutors played a video of an interview the teen gave to special agents after Elkins’ body was discovered.

In that interview, Metzker-Madsen claims Elkins was injured when he was hit in the head by a falling log. After the log hit him, Metzker-Madsen says Elkins hit himself with a brick.

Metzker-Madsen’s defense attorney is using an insanity defense.

They’ll make their case Thursday morning when the trial resumes.
