JOHNSTON, Iowa — The Johnston school board on Tuesday voted 4-3 to require face masks for all students, staff and visitors. The districtwide mandate takes effect on Thursday.

Johnston joins three other metro school districts with the same mandate. Masks are required in the Des Moines, West Des Moines and Urbandale school districts.

The Waukee school board voted down a mask mandate last week.
