According to Iowa Workforce Development, construction added 1,600 jobs this past month but it wasn’t enough to lower the unemployment rate.

July’s unemployment rate increased to 4.8-percent.

That’s up from 4.6-percent in June.

Iowa is still doing better than the national unemployment rate of 7.4-percent.
