AMES, Iowa – An Ames man is behind bars after authorities say he pointed a loaded handgun at multiple people.

Iowa State University police were dispatched to Schilletter Village, just north of campus, about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Three people told authorities a man approached them and pointed a loaded gun at them. The man, later identified as 26-year-old Jerome Elgin Guy Clinton, yelled at the individuals and attempted to start a fight. The individuals said Clinton then fled.

Police were able to locate Clinton and arrest him. Authorities say officers found a handgun near where Clinton was arrested.

Clinton is facing several charges including three counts of assault, three counts of first-degree harassment and possession and control of a firearm by a felon. He is currently in the Story County Jail on $80,000 cash bond, online arrest records say.
