POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa -- An Iowa teen was killed and three others were hurt in a car crash early Sunday morning.

The crash happened near Honey Creek in Pottawattamie County around 2:40 a.m. Four boys were riding in a car when the driver failed to make a turn, sending the car into a ravine.

17-year old Dakota Gittins from Underwood died in the crash. The three other boys in the car were hurt but friends say each of them suffered minor injuries.

Gittins was a junior at Underwood High School, and his friends and classmates gathered there Sunday to remember the young man taken too soon.

"Every time I hung out with him it was always so much fun," Kiley Ryan said. "He always made it -- even if it was a sucky night, he always made it so much fun."

The superintendent of Underwood Schools said counselors are available for students who need it.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash.
