DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowans with the American Red Cross are traveling to Canada this week to help with disaster relief operations from a massive wildfire.

Three Iowa Region workers are leaving for Alberta, Canada Wednesday and Thursday. Nancy Kintner, Kara Kelly, and Cliff Haynes will be assisting the Canadian Red Cross in providing food, water, places to stay, and family reunification services.

All of the 70,000 residents of Fort McMurray were forced to flee their homes due to the fire. The Canadian Red Cross is operating shelters in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lac La Biche for those who were evacuated.
